-Description

Grand Seiko (GS)" was born in 1960 with the determination to "create the world's finest wristwatch" and by pouring in all of the component precision, assembly technology, and adjustment technology that had been cultivated up to that point.

This watch is the second model of Grand Seiko, "Self-Dater".

The major difference from the first model is the addition of the date display of its name.

The case design has the same basic lines, but the details have been changed to give it a very robust appearance.

The case material was also changed from thick gold plated for the first model to stainless steel. There are a few 18K gold pieces of this model.

The second model is sometimes referred to as the 57GS, but there are several variations depending on the production period.

This watch is Ref. 5722-9991, a later model with Cal.5722B.

The dial is marked GS, and the medallion on the caseback is also a combination of GS medallion.

The display at the 6 o'clock position was initially marked "Chronometer," but this was not officially approved by the Swiss chronometer standard, so a complaint was made, and after the initial model, the notation was changed to "GS.

The GS standard is stricter than the chronometer standard, and even after more than 50 years of production, the watch can still be used without any problems.

The dial is a silver dial with sunray finish, multi-faceted bar indexes, and dauphine hands, a combination that is typical of GS watches.

The dial and hands are in very good condition.

This is a very rare piece with details on the caseback that differ from other late models.

The STAINLESS STEEL 5722-9991 WATER PROOF section is indicated as a white band, and the lettering has been cut around it to make it appear.

This is a feature that can only be found on pieces manufactured in January and February 1967, and is almost never seen.

The other pieces have the same engraving as the serial number, and the letters are engraved, so you can compare the two.

The movement is a manual Cal.5722B. This watch was also in very good condition when I photographed it before service.

In addition to the good condition of the watch, it has some details that are not known at all yet.

We purchased this watch from Mr. Yoshihiko Honda a.k.a BQ(@bqwatch) who is leading expert of vintage seiko.

All components and authenticity are checked by him as well.
