-Description
Patek Philippe is a watch manufacturer founded in Geneva in 1839. They make watches with uncompromising quality and technical expertise.
Along with Vacheron Constantin and Audemars Piguet, it is known as the Big Three, one of the world's three major brands, and it is no exaggeration to say that it has established a special position among them.
This watch is the Calatrava reference 3820, a model that appeared in the 1980s. It is an attractive watch with elements reminiscent of vintage models from the 1940s, such as Breguet hands, Breguet numerals, and teardrop lugs.
The case is made of 18K pink gold. One of the features of this gold dress watch is that it has a screw caseback
The case diameter is 32mm, which is a little small. The rounded teardrop shape gives it a more vintage feel.
The dial is ivory. It is a slightly grayish shade of ivory. The certificate of origin states that it is "fond glace ivoire", which literally means "cold ivory."
The hands and indexes are a combination of Breguet hands and Breguet numerals, but the numerals are only in four places, and the rest are set with diamonds, making this a very rare dial.
Most of reference 3820 have dials with all Breguet numeral indexes, so a design like this watch is extremely rare.
The diamonds are a modest size and not overly flashy, making them a nice accent piece.
Additionally, there is a σ (sigma) mark on either side of SWISS at the 6 o'clock position on the dial.
This is a designation seen on watches made by manufacturers that belonged to an organization called APRIOR from around 1973 to around 2000, and indicates that precious metals such as gold were used for the dial and indexes.
The σ display means "high quality gold It was added for the purpose of "indicating that the watch is Swiss made." This feature can be seen on watches from five companies: Rolex, Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin, IWC, and Omega, but not on all watches from that period.
For this reason, Sigma dials are considered highly rare among collectors.
The movement is the hand-wound Cal. 177. It is a very thin movement based on Frederic Piguet Cal.21, with a Cotes de Genève finish and a perlage finish on the main plate, making it a very beautiful machine.
The watch comes with COA (Guarantee Paper). The code on the paper indicates that the watch was shipped in 1991. The dial column is marked 4/4 Breguet.
A genuine leather strap is included, but the buckle is an aftermarket gold pated product.
