The Datejust is Rolex's signature automatic watch. It was born in 1945.It is widely known as a watch that anyone can recognize at a glance due to its distinctive appearance.
The Datejust mechanism, which instantly changes the date at midnight, is regarded as one of Rolex's three greatest inventions, together with the Oyster case and the automatic Perpetual mechanism, and the Datejust collection is the culmination of all these features.
Reference 1603 is a vintage model manufactured from the 1960s to the late 1970s.
It looks a little similar to the Datejust reference 1601, but the difference is that this 1603 has a stainless steel engine-turned bezel, while the 1601 has a solid gold fluted bezel.
The engine-turned bezel, which is more finely decorated than the fluted bezel, is somewhere between elegant and sporty.
The fluted bezel is made of white gold and changes colour with age, whereas the engine-turned bezel is made of stainless steel and is more consistent with the case. This difference is a matter of taste.
The case has some small scratches due to use, but it is in good condition with little thinning. It has not been polished too much.
The dial is a silver dial with a sunray finish. Although it has changed slightly due to aging, it is in excellent condition with almost no visible corrosion. The luminous paint on the hands and dial is tritium luminous, which has also changed very nicely.
In addition, there are σ (sigma) marks on both sides of the SWISS at the 6 o'clock position on the dial. This is a notation that can be seen on watches from around 1973 to around 2000 made by manufacturers that belonged to an organization called APRIOR, and indicates that precious metals such as gold are used for the dial and indexes.
This was added with the purpose of "representing a high-quality gold Swiss-made watch." This specification can be found in watches from five companies: Rolex, Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin, IWC, and Omega, but it is not included in all watches in that age.
It appears to have been used by Rolex from around 1973 to the mid-1970s, and is highly valued among collectors for its rarity.
The movement is automatic Cal.1570. This movement has high accuracy and durability that passes chronometer standards, and is easy to maintain, so you can use it with confidence.
The bracelet is folded Oyster Jubilee Bracelet 6251H.The bracelet shows some droop.

About Complete Service
Complete service, sometime called overhaul is the work of disassembling a mechanical product down to its individual parts, cleaning and reassembling it to bring it closer to its new state of performance.
Roughly speaking, the overhaul procedure is as follows.
1. Separate into case and movement
2. Disassemble the movement
3. Inspection and pre-cleaning of wear condition of each part
4. Wash parts with a special machine
5. Lubrication and assembly
6. Waterproof test
7. Final adjustment and running test.
Some movements are made up of hundreds of parts, but it is a very meticulous process of disassembling them one by one, inspecting them all, cleaning them, and reassembling them.
If you don't overhaul, the oil will deteriorate just like a car, and the risk of wear and damage to parts increases, causing a decrease in accuracy and, in severe cases, not working.
There is also the reason that it will be very expensive to replace parts after they are found to be damaged, so we recommend overhauling once every 2-3 years for economical and long-term use.
About Polishing
Vintage watches have been used for decades, and even the stainless steel used in many watches has rounded corners that were originally sharp, and has many small scratches even though the mirror finish should be beautiful. state.
