-Description

The Day-Date is Rolex's ultimate status watch. Introduced in 1956, it was the world's first waterproof self-winding chronometer wristwatch that displayed the date and day of the week in full spelling on the dial.

The case is made exclusively from 18K gold or platinum. It is the only Rolex watch with a day of the week display, and by using limited materials, it has established itself as the company's top-of-the-line watch.

The Day Date is also sometimes referred to as the 'President's Watch'. The name originated with the presentation of the watch to Dwight Eisenhower, the 34th President of the United States, and it has since been worn by successive presidents.

Reference 1803 is the third generation Day-Date, a vintage model produced from the 1960s to the late 1970s. This example was manufactured around 1967.

The case is made of 18K white gold. It has a very subdued colour, and at first glance it looks like stainless steel, but if you look closely, you can see that the luster is different, giving the impression that it is a gold watch, but not too conspicuous.

The dial is a silver dial with a sunray finish. Both the hands and dial have no luminous paint. Although the color has slightly changed due to age, it is in very good condition with no visible peeling of the print.

The condensed design of the dial with one step down on the outer circumference and the raised plastic crystal are the unique features of a vintage day date with a four-digit reference.

The movement is the self-winding Cal.1556, a later version of Ref.1803 with a frequency of 19,800 vibrations instead of the 18,000 of the earlier model.

As the watch is not equipped with a quick-change mechanism, the day and date are adjusted by sending the long hand back and forth.
