-Description

Day-Date is the ultimate status watch of Rolex.

Introduced in 1956, the Day-Date was the world's first water-resistant, self-winding chronometer wristwatch with the date and full spelling of the day on the dial.

The case is made exclusively in 18K gold or platinum.

It was the only watch to display the day of the week, and its limited materials established it as Rolex's premier timepiece.

The Day-Date is also known as the "President Watch"

Its origin began when it was presented to the 34th President of the United States, Dwight Eisenhower, and the name has been established by the successive presidents since then.

The bracelet, which is made of gold as well as the case, is known as the "President Bracelet" and has a strong image of "a prestigious watch worn by successful people and leaders".

This Ref.1803 is a vintage model produced from the 1960s to the late 1970s,the 3rd generation Day-Date.

This piece was made in 1962 and is an early production as Ref.1803.

The case is made of 18K yellow gold. It has a very subdued color and gives an impression that is not too conspicuous even though it is a gold watch.

The reference is designated Ref.1803/8 to distinguish it from the later model, Ref.18038.
The "/8" after 1803 refers to the case material, and the same model is distinguished as "1803/9" for WG (white gold) and "1803/5" for RG (rose gold).

Another feature of the 4-digit Day-Date is that the crystal is made of plexi glass. From the next generation, it is changed to sapphire glass.

The dial is a silver dial with a sunray finish. The color changes to an ivory color for its age.

The hand is a pencil hand, and the index is a bar index. Both are cut in a mountain-fold shape.

There is no luminous paint on the dial and hands, making the dial very clean.

The outer periphery of the dial is one step down, and the tightly condensed design is a detail unique to vintages that can also be seen in Datejusts of the same age.

Vintage day-dates have a wide variety of combinations of dials, hands, and indexes, so the good thing is that the one you like is almost one-of-a-kind, but it is also difficult to obtain.

The installed movement is a self-winding Cal.1555, a low-beat with 18,000 bph.

Cal.1555 installed in the early model of Ref.1803. The late model was equipped with Cal.1556, which became 19,800 bph.

Since the quick change of the calendar is not installed, the day of the week and date are adjusted by forwarding and returning the hands.
